Jewish Leader Dismisses Politician’s Fears as Unsuitable for Berlin Mayoral Role

Gideon Joffe, the chairman of the Jewish Community in Berlin, declared that Leftist politician Elif Eralp is unsuitable for the office of Governing Mayor in the capital, citing a report published in the magazine “Spiegel”. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition), Joffe stated that Eralp had “completely disqualified herself” for the role, even at this point. He argued that it is “frightening and an absolute bankrupt declaration” if government decisions are made based on personal fears.

Joffe stressed that future city leaders must act based on rational consideration, particularly when making critical decisions, such as those concerning raids in Neukölln or police operations against organized crime.

The “Spiegel” report had specifically quoted an internal memo from Eralp in which she and her husband expressed fear of certain individuals. This statement was pointedly related to Ibrahim Ibrahim, a Hamas sympathizer.
