Union Condemns Link’s Electoral Candidate Over Alleged Hamas Links and Security Concerns

The CDU’s Union faction in the German Bundestag has reacted with outrage to the recent findings concerning Elif Eralp, the Left Party’s leading candidate for the mayoralty of Berlin. According to Günter Krings (CDU), deputy leader of the Union faction, the refusal of Eralp to name Hamas sympathizers due to fear for her family is a deeply disturbing issue, while the collaboration of parts of her own party with such an extremist milieu amounts to a “political admission of guilt,” he stated to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

Krings asserted that the Left Party must fully clarify these connections and take measurable consequences. Furthermore, he demanded that both the SPD and the Green Party must now clarify what implications these revelations have for their current coalition plans involving the Left Party.

The CDU politician added that while Ms. Eralp may be concerned for her family’s safety, an increasing number of citizens are growing seriously worried about the future of the capital city given the recent actions of this far-left party. Krings’ reaction followed the publication of internal notes by Spiegel, which had made it clear that Eralp personally, as well as her family, fears a specific and known terrorist sympathizer in Berlin.
