Lindner Rules Out Political Comeback, Focuses on Corporate Strategy and Economic Influence

Former Federal Finance Minister and former FDP leader Christian Lindner has ruled out a return to politics. When asked by the “Welt am Sonntag” whether he was preparing for a comeback, Lindner stated firmly, “Absolutely not. I argued for my beliefs with passion, but everything has its time.” He added that the likelihood of him running for a public office again is “close to zero.” The former FDP politician further explained that anyone who genuinely wishes to take on operational responsibility in the business world cannot do so while having one foot firmly in partisan politics.

Currently, his role as the board member of Autoland AG presents a significant challenge: “We have ambitious growth targets and want to continue modernizing the automotive trade,” the former finance minister noted. In parallel, he is also investing in start-ups through his own investment company.

Lindner clarified that his recent frequent political comments on social media are not contradictory to this focus. He maintains, “I remain a political person. Political frameworks also shape economic life.” He justifies his commentary by saying he speaks “because I can argue simultaneously from political experience and practical action in the economy.”
