According to a survey conducted by Forsa for RTL and ntv, a large majority of Germans feel that society is politically polarized. The survey found that 86 percent of those questioned perceived political divisions within Germany. However, only 44 percent believe that German society has fractured into two roughly equally sized political camps, similar to the situation in the United States. Conversely, 32 percent see the political rift as a split between a small minority and a large majority. A much smaller group, 15 percent, stated that they do not perceive any political division whatsoever.
Among specific political groups, the idea of two roughly equal political camps is particularly common among AfD supporters, 56 percent of whom hold this view. The percentage sharing this belief remains high among CDU/CSU supporters (46 percent), Green party adherents (38 percent), and SPD supporters (37 percent). Support for this view is lowest among Die Linke followers, at 31 percent.
