Hahn Predicts US-Ukraine Policy to Remain Consistent Despite Midterm Elections; Germany Pledges Continued Support

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Florian Hahn (CSU), indicated that the US mid-term elections are unlikely to lead to a fundamental change in American policy toward Ukraine. Speaking to Politico, Hahn suggested that these elections probably “will not mean much for Germany,” noting that the US President holds broad authority in foreign and security policy and is “not really predictable.”

Nevertheless, Hahn remains confident in maintaining continuity for Ukraine. He stated firmly that there is high conviction that the situation regarding Ukraine “will not change drastically.” He reiterated that Germany will continue its approach, which primarily involves supporting Ukraine as thoroughly as possible in the interest of its own national security.

Looking ahead to the winter months, Hahn announced further assistance. He noted that Germany has already invested over €44 billion solely into Ukrainian infrastructure. Following his recent meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Berlin, an additional support package totaling €200 million has been made available. Hahn concluded by saying that Ukraine still has Germany “on its side.”
