On Friday afternoon, a light aircraft crashed near Magdeburg, coming to rest and catching fire on the A2 motorway.
According to reports citing the Magdeburg police, the exact number of people affected or injured remains unclear. Reports also indicate that no vehicles were involved in the incident.
In response, the A2 motorway is currently closed between Burg-Zentrum and Rastplatz Krähenberge Nord for traffic heading toward Magdeburg. Investigators are working on the scene, which is located on the hard shoulder; police units and ambulance services are on site. Local drivers are being asked to steer clear of the area and take a wide detour.
