The German Armed Forces procurement agency is proactively preparing for the logistical requirements associated with the planned expansion of the Bundeswehr. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has indicated a goal to increase troop numbers to 460,000, encompassing both active soldiers and reservists.
Annette Lehnigk-Emden, President of the procurement agency, stated to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers that the planned increase necessitates a significant expansion of essential equipment. “We will need considerably more clothing, protective gear and assault rifles” she explained, emphasizing the need to have these items readily available.
The agency is currently engaged in discussions with the arms industry to ensure sufficient production and supply chain capacity. “We are already speaking with manufacturers and signaling that substantial orders are coming” Lehnigk-Emden confirmed, indicating a concerted effort to coordinate with the industry to meet the anticipated surge in demand.
