Weidel’s TV Interview Disrupted by Protests

A planned television interview with Alice Weidel, leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, was disrupted on Sunday by vocal protests. The “Summer Interview” hosted by Markus Preiß, encountered interruptions from the outset, initially through chanting, which escalated to the playing of loud music.

Weidel repeatedly expressed difficulty in hearing Preiß’s questions due to the escalating noise levels, making comprehension challenging for both participants and viewers. Despite the disruptions, Weidel declined to comment on the protests directly. She requested that Preiß continue the interview without commentary, focusing on the core questions aimed at addressing concerns held by the German populace.

The discussion covered a range of topics, including recent increases in salaries within the AfD parliamentary group. Weidel defended the adjustments, stating that the compensation for leadership positions had been raised to a level consistent with those of other parliamentary factions and political parties.

The interview also addressed the question of whether the AfD should moderate its political stance. Weidel firmly rejected the suggestion, asserting that the party’s program prioritizes citizens’ freedoms and rights, with the aim of implementing reasoned policies for the country.
