Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius stated to the dts Nachrichtenagentur on Monday that Merz has never initiated a legal proceeding based on such matters during his tenure, adding that he was unaware of why the Chancellor should now pursue legal action. The spokesperson firmly dismissed the idea, calling the potential proceedings “simply absurd” and lacking any legal foundation. Nevertheless, Kornelius remained cagey when pressed on how Merz would respond if the public prosecutor’s office were to initiate a case independently, stating that he would not answer “hypothetical questions.” The verbal exchange has dominated discussion in recent days. During the broadcast, the medical professional accused Merz of breaking his oath by supporting the black-red coalition’s health savings package, an accusation Merz strongly refuted. Following the program, she told the “Bild” newspaper that Merz had allegedly told her that her statements were “criminal.” In response, Kornelius confirmed that this accusation “stands in the room” and is an unrefuted claim.
