Berlin political scientist Thorsten Faas views a coalition comprising the Left parties, the Greens, and the Social Democrats (SPD) as the most probable scenario for the city. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Faas indicated that he finds this specific alliance to be “more appropriate from a substantive point of view” compared to the alternative pairing of the CDU, Greens, and SPD.
While acknowledging that numerous differences will exist, particularly in policy prioritization and specific positions, Faas noted that the issue of the socialization of housing is a significant point of contention.
Furthermore, the researcher from Free University of Berlin highlighted an external factor: he pointed out that a similar coalition is simultaneously being formed in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Given recent election results, he currently considers this Left/Greens/SPD pact to be the likeliest development.
Currently, the Left parties, the Greens, and the SPD are engaged in exploratory talks in Berlin and intend to determine by the end of the week whether they see viable prospects for formal coalition negotiations.
