AfD Politician Rausch Alerts Saxony-Anhalt to Potential Snap Elections If Majority Fails

Tobias Rausch, the AfD candidate slated to be elected President of the State Parliament, does not rule out the possibility of holding new state elections in Saxony-Anhalt. Speaking on Tuesday to RTL and ntv, Rausch stated that should his party fail to achieve a majority in the first round of voting, they would subsequently lack a majority throughout the entire term.

He explained that if this happens, the parliament itself would not want them to govern. Consequently, Rausch announced that the AfD would take specific actions, suggesting they might consider dissolving the parliament, or alternatively, passing the responsibility to all parties that disagree with their governing, particularly those refusing to engage in dialogue.

Regarding the formation of a governing coalition, Rausch dismissed concerns over potential delays of up to 100 days if Ulrich Siegmund only decides to run in December, assuring viewers that they are “theoretically well on track.”

Rausch expressed confidence on Tuesday that he would successfully win the presidency, notably with the votes of the BSW. However, while he mentioned that the BSW has announced it will not elect Hans-Thomas Tillschneider, the AfD candidate for the deputy position, he stated that he intended to wait before reacting to this news. He maintained that “currently we are confident that both I and Colonel Tillschneider will be elected.”
