According to late evening polls conducted by ARD and ZDF regarding the state election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the AfD has emerged as the strongest political force, narrowly surpassing the Social Democratic Party (SPD). The party, led by top candidate Leif-Erik Holm, is polling at an average of 37.5 percent, just ahead of the Social Democrats, who are backed by Minister-President Manuela Schwesig with 36 percent.
The Linke (The Left) is significantly further behind, averaging 6.8 percent. Both the Greens (5.5 percent) and the CDU (5.3 percent) clear the five-percent threshold, though the CDU still appears to face some uncertainty. The Bavarian State Citizens’ Party (BSW) hovers just below with 4.9 percent. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) is polling very low at 1.1 percent, while all other parties combined account for an average of 3.0 percent.
These figures are based on post-election surveys carried out both within the polling stations on Sunday by Infratest (for ARD) and Forschungsgruppe Wahlen (for ZDF).
