AfD Surges, Widening Gap to Union and Challenging Center-Left Coalition

According to the latest poll from the polling institute Insa for “Bild am Sonntag” the AfD was able to gain another point, reaching 29 percent. This represents the highest measurement ever recorded in the “Sunday Trend” for the party.

In sharp contrast, the CDU/CSU alliance continues to lose momentum, falling to only 22 percent, a one-point drop. This places them at their lowest polling number in over four years. Consequently, the gap between the AfD and the CDU/CSU widens to seven percentage points-a new record high.

This gain means the AfD has accumulated approximately eight percentage points since the Bundestag election on February 23, 2025 (results: 20.8 percent), nearly reversing the polling gap they held with the CDU/CSU at that time (7.7 percentage points).

Meanwhile, the SPD also registers a loss, dropping one point to 12 percent. Combined, the center-right and center-left blocs (Schwarz-Rot) now total only 34 percent, suggesting that compared to the 2025 election, they have lost nearly one in four voters.

The Greens, however, managed a slight increase, rising to 14 percent, marking their best result in the last two and a half years. The Left Party experienced a one-point decline, landing at 10 percent. Finally, the FDP and BSW remained stagnant at 3 percent, figures that would clearly preclude their representation in the Bundestag.
