Following the attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport-an incident for which the German federal government holds Russia responsible-security authorities have reportedly identified several suspects.
According to reports from NDR, WDR, and the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, law enforcement has targeted two suspects with purported connections to Russia. One of these individuals is described as a Belarusian citizen, whose DNA has been discovered during the investigation. This man, who is also alleged to hold a Russian passport, previously faced charges while in the Baltic states and supposedly entered the Schengen area using an Italian tourist visa.
The second man is believed to have acted as a logistician and instructor for the attack. This suspect reportedly entered Germany via Berlin’s BER airport and left the country shortly before the failed attack. This second suspect reportedly holds both Lithuanian and Russian passports.
Investigators are reportedly skeptical about their ability to apprehend the alleged perpetrators. In the past, efforts to capture these individuals have failed because they ceased traveling to Europe. Russia, conversely, denies the accusations, characterizing the attempted attack as a “hastily fabricated provocation.”
