Federal Labour Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD) indicated that further discussion is necessary regarding the proposed pension reform. Speaking to “Bild,” Bas clarified that the current document is merely a committee resolution, which does not yet constitute a political agreement. Although the concept aims for implementation, she noted that certain areas, similar to the provisions concerning Minijobs, require clarification, especially within the gastronomy sector, where businesses have voiced their need for specific allowances.
Questions remain open even regarding the pension system itself. Bas expressed concern for those who have worked for a very long time. The current concept does include proposals related to sickness and disability pensions. Nonetheless, Bas maintained her desire for a reform, stating that “I want a pension reform, and we need it, because the younger generation must have prospects.” However, she added that there is still “a need for discussion on the various elements.” Despite her commitment, she cautioned against scrapping the entire package, warning that doing so would prevent any reform from happening.
