Due to a fierce wildfire in the Belgian nature reserve Hohes Venn, further evacuations are currently underway in the Eifel region. The town of Monschau announced on Sunday morning that residents of the villages of Plattevenn, Leyloch, and Kalterherberg are strongly advised to leave these areas before 10 a.m. and stay with family or friends. For individuals who are unable to find suitable shelter on their own, the town has set up a designated reception center at the Bürgercasino Imgenbroich. This urgent action is prompted by the continued spread of the fire in Hohes Venn. Monschau stated that it cannot be ruled out that significant air pollution and ash fallout may increase starting in the morning.
