The construction of the new rail line connecting Berlin and Szczecin will be delayed by another year. According to Deutsche Bahn, the planned completion of the German section of the Angermünde to the Germany/Poland border expansion track, originally slated for December 2027, must now be postponed until December 2028.
The railway company attributed this delay to capacity constraints in the market for control and safety technology services. Bahn stated that despite the major commitment from all parties involved, the required tasks cannot be accomplished within 2027.
The first section of the route, stretching between Angermünde and Passow, has been largely completed, with only residual work remaining, according to Deutsche Bahn. For the second section, between Passow and the German-Polish border, approximately 95 percent of the work is expected to be finished by the end of 2027. This scope includes track systems, platforms, masts, and overhead lines.
This railway connection overhaul has been rescheduled multiple times; initially, its realization was planned for as early as 2020. Following World War II, parts of the track were dismantled, and a significant portion of the route was not electrified. Currently, the tracks in the final section near the border have been completely removed, and a replacement bus service is running in the interim.
