The closed Nordbrücke in Bonn will remain permanently closed to traffic for the time being. Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) announced this in Bonn, stating that the structural damage to the bridge is so severe that parts of it will have to be rebuilt. This construction work is expected to take approximately two years. The Autobahn GmbH had implemented the full closure of the bridge suddenly on June 3rd. Soon after, Schnieder visited the site to inspect the condition. During his visit, the Autobahn GmbH requested an additional 14 days to conduct thorough inspections. Since the closure, it has caused significant traffic jams throughout the city. In response, Bonn Mayor Guido Déus and the city council agreed on a package of measures aimed at easing the congestion. These measures include expanding Park-and-Ride areas, offering partially free local public transport, and adjusting the lane divisions on specific streets.
