Canada Routines Qatar 6-0 to Claim Group B Lead at World Cup

Canada secured a commanding 6-0 victory against Qatar in their second Group B fixture during the World Cup. The hosts benefited from a dominant display and the advantage of numerical superiority, after two Qatari players were sent off. However, this excellent showing will come at a cost, as the team will likely have to do without their playmaker, Ismael Koné, for some time due to injury.

The Canadians took the lead early on when Cyle Larin capitalized on a deflection in the 16th minute. Jonathan David doubled the advantage in the 29th minute with a precise volley, and just before halftime, David scored his second goal, netting a close-range deflection.

The second half began drastically when Ismael Koné had to be substituted due to an injury. His replacement, Nathan Saliba, provided a response in the 64th minute, scoring into an open net from a free-kick to make it 4-0. The scoring continued when Qatar’s Mohamed Manai scored an own goal in the 74th minute, and Jonathan David sealed his hat-trick during stoppage time.

With this win, Canada has taken the lead in Group B, ahead of Switzerland, who are also sitting on four points. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar remain in third and fourth place, both with only one point.
