The central board of the CDU has appointed Member of Parliament Mathias Middelberg as the new federal treasurer. The party announced on Monday that in this role, he will be responsible for acquiring the financial resources and coordinating the CDU’s party finances. Furthermore, he is now a member of the CDU Germany executive committee. Middelberg has been a member of the Bundestag since 2009, representing the electoral district of the city of Osnabrück. Since 2021, he has served as the deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group for Budget and Finance, while also leading the state group for Lower Saxony. Party chairman and Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that “Mathias Middelberg stands for reliability, economic common sense, and great political experience. He will assume this important task with care and discernment.”
