The CDU/CSU parliamentary group meeting scheduled for next Wednesday, intended to elect a new chairman, is expected to take place in the Plenary Hall of the German Bundestag. This expectation is based on reports from the Bundestag administration and the Union parliamentary group, as cited by the “Rheinische Post”.
While a suitable room is currently being sought, the Plenary Hall is highly probable. A definitive decision regarding the location is anticipated later this week. The necessity for this change stems from the fact that, according to the Bundestag administration, the parliamentary group’s designated floor area has been completely closed since last week, and the restrictions are scheduled to remain in place until early September due to ongoing renovation work.
However, holding a group meeting in the Plenary Hall would be an unusual occurrence. Such a gathering did take place previously-during 2021, when CDU and CSU members convened for a plenary session, initially due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. With 208 members, the Union currently holds the largest faction within the Bundestag.
