Following the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, the potential government options in Magdeburg remain unclear. According to recent projections, the AfD is polling at an average of 44.4 percent. While this puts them extremely close to achieving a majority of seats, they do not quite reach it. In contrast, the CDU’s result has been more than halved compared to the last election, with the Christian Democrats led by Minister-President Sven Schulze now expected to hold only 18.4 percent of the seats. Additionally, the Linke (9.3 percent), the Greens (8.7 percent), and the SPD (8.6 percent) have made it into the state parliament. The chances for the BSW (4.9 percent) are tight, and their entry could ultimately determine whether AfD top candidate Ulrich Siegmund is elected Minister-President. Meanwhile, the FDP (2.3 percent), which previously governed alongside the CDU and SPD, clearly failed to enter parliament.
