The Hechingen Public Prosecutor’s Office has allegedly launched an investigation against CDU Member of Parliament Thomas Bareiß. According to reports from the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and “Stuttgarter Nachrichten”, the investigation stems from a traffic accident in Baden-Württemberg on July 12, in which Bareiß and other individuals sustained injuries. Bareiß’s official immunity is reportedly being lifted.
Specifically, the prosecutor is investigating preliminary suspicions of negligent endangerment of road traffic and negligent bodily harm. These suspicions are primarily based on the results of a blood analysis. A spokesperson for the public prosecutor stated that the evidence suggests the accused caused the traffic accident and was not under the influence of alcohol, but rather of a synthetic narcotic.
Bareiß has served as a member of the German Bundestag since 2005. His political career includes serving as a Parliamentary State Secretary under Angela Merkel from 2018 to 2021, specifically at the Federal Minister for Economic and Energy. During that period, he also held the position of Government Representative for Tourism. Furthermore, between 2020 and 2021, he additionally acted as the Government Representative for Small and Medium Enterprises.
