Green politician Konstantin von Notz has warned of a growing threat posed by China. Speaking during the POLITICALICO Berlin Playbook podcast, von Notz stated that the world significantly underestimates the energy and the level of aggression with which China operates against the West, and by extension, against Europe and Germany.
He described the gathering of authoritarian states as being highly relevant for security policy, noting that these leaders form common interests by banding together against a perceived enemy. Von Notz focused particularly on China’s role in the war in Ukraine, indicating that the nation is providing indirect support to Russia through the trade of dual-use goods.
The politician also warned about Moscow’s increasing aggression toward Germany. He cited ongoing disinformation campaigns and the perceived closeness with extremist parties, specifically naming the AfD and BSW. As a consequence of these threats, von Notz called for a fortification of Germany’s intelligence services, asserting that the country requires a modern and robust intelligence law.
