BND Confirms Internal Investigation into Former President Hanning, Citing Security Concerns

The current President of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Martin Jäger, has confirmed the initiation of internal investigations regarding the arrest of former BND President August Hanning.

Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday, Jäger stated that the BND launched extensive internal inquiries immediately and early on, findings which strengthened the suspicions. He firmly maintained that there are no compromises concerning internal security for himself or the agency. Jäger added that none of his goals or priorities are being jeopardized by this matter.

The agency confirmed that the ongoing investigation has been taken over by the Federal Public Prosecutor General, and the BND referred to this current legal process when questioned.
