At least 21 people have died after a landslide occurred in the northwest Chinese province of Gansu. State news agency Xinhua reported on Wednesday that search and rescue operations have since been suspended.
The landslide struck a valley in the Dangchang County early Tuesday morning, burying 33 individuals. Most of the deceased were reportedly seasonal workers employed at a state forest farm located in the area. The mountainous region is generally recognized as being vulnerable to natural disasters, including flash floods and landslides.
