Consumers Miss Out on Savings at the Pump

According to the ADAC, the tax reduction on fuels has only partially affected the prices at gas stations. The automobile club reported this on Saturday. The fuel discount, which went into effect on May 1st, was intended to lower the energy tax by roughly 14 cents per liter. Including VAT, this reduction should have provided an overall relief of 16.7 cents per liter. However, the ADAC stated that prices actually only fell by approximately 14 cents.

On May 1st, the price for Super E10 decreased by 13.7 cents to 1.989 euros per liter, while the diesel price dropped by 13.6 cents to 2.063 euros. The ADAC is demanding that the tax cut be fully passed on to consumers. The association also points out that crude oil prices have declined since their peak on April 30th, which should create additional room for price reductions.

Furthermore, the adoption of the so-called “Austria Model” on April 1st, according to the ADAC, has exacerbated the price trend. This model permits oil companies to raise prices only once daily at 12 o’clock, but allows for price reductions at any time. Gasoline and diesel prices surged significantly since the start of the Iran War in March, reaching all-time highs for diesel several times.
