Cottbus Dominates Karlsruhe, Secures Victory and Climb in 2. Bundesliga

Energie Cottbus secured a 3-0 victory against Karlsruher SC, concluding the fifth matchday of the 2. Bundesliga.

The visiting side initiated the lead during a fast-paced first half. In the 45th minute, just before the break, Lukas Michelbrink seized an opportunity following a turnover in the midfield. He finished a combination play with a powerful strike into the near corner.

Cottbus extended their lead after the halftime interval. Dominik Pelivan scored in the 55th minute with a well-placed low shot, having skillfully bypassed the Karlsruher defense with clever feints. The third and final goal came in the 62nd minute when Justin Butler shot a low ball into the left corner, capitalizing on an error made by the Karlsruher defense.

This win allows Cottbus to move up to seventh place in the standings, while KSC drops to twelfth. Cottbus’s next fixture is this coming Sunday against FC St. Pauli, and Karlsruher is scheduled to play Nürnberg at home the day before. Meanwhile, results from the other matches played Sunday afternoon included 1. FC Heidenheim defeating Holstein Kiel 1-0, and VfL Osnabrück losing to Hertha BSC 1-3.
