CSU Warns Coalition Over Health Reform Changes Threatening Cost Stability and Quality Care

Alexander Hoffmann, the head of the CSU regional group, has issued a warning regarding the coalition’s plan for health care reform, expressing concern that proposed changes might come at the expense of necessary savings. According to Hoffmann, the clear objectives must be twofold: ensuring top-tier medical care and maintaining stability in contribution rates. Therefore, he stressed that any changes implemented must not reduce the overall financial volume. The goal remains to successfully finalize the reform package by July.

Despite these concerns, Hoffmann announced that a thorough review of the reform is scheduled. The government’s parliamentary factions intend to utilize the parliamentary process to intensively scrutinize the draft law concerning the statutory health insurance system (GKV-Reform), allowing for potential adjustments. The CSU politician stated that this detailed review will advance the overall reform process, helping to ensure that the final package is perceived as equitable.

The context for this discussion stems from a savings law for health insurers that the Cabinet introduced last week, a measure designed to keep contributions stable over the long term. Overall, the federal government aims to achieve savings of €16.3 billion within the coming year through this reform package.
