American writer Dave Eggers is advocating for a comprehensive ban on artificial intelligence (AI) in educational settings, contending that there is no acceptable dosage of AI in schools. Speaking to the weekly magazine Die Zeit, Eggers warned that humanity is currently reaching an “existential point” in its history. He argued that children and adolescents, particularly those from marginalized groups, will begin to rely on artificial intelligence in the hope of making fewer mistakes. Eggers called for clear regulations and a general prohibition of AI in the classroom, warning that the technology is cultivating a “culture of mistrust.” Furthermore, he cautioned that if young people fail to learn to value their own voices, this could signify “the end of the human species.”
