DAX Gains as Semiconductor Sector Sees Unmet Potential for German Tech Innovation

The German stock market began its mid-week session on a positive note, with the DAX standing at 25,320 points at 9:30 AM in the Frankfurt exchange hall, marking a 0.2 percent increase from the close of the previous day. Shares of the semiconductor manufacturer Infineon were particularly sought after, gaining 2.5 percent by the start of trading and leading the gains.

A study released by the Munich Ifo Institute on Wednesday suggests that the potential of the domestic German semiconductor sector for innovation and growth is currently being underutilized. According to the research, there is considerably less demand for high technology within the German market, which is slowing down the appetite for semiconductors. IFO expert Anita Wölfl noted that “The spread of modern, data-driven technologies like AI is progressing slowly within Germany.”

In other markets, the Brent crude oil price rose slightly, reaching $106.10 per barrel around 9 AM German time on Wednesday, representing a gain of 44 cents, or 0.4 percent, compared to the prior day’s close. Meanwhile, the European common currency showed some strength in the morning; one euro was priced at $1.1205, while the dollar could be acquired for 0.8925 euros.
