Dax Starts Cautiously Amid Tech Optimism, Waits for Key Fed Decisions and AI Profitability Outlook

The DAX opened its trading day cautiously on Wednesday morning. By approximately 9:30 AM, the leading index was calculated at around 25,555 points, showing a slight dip of 0.1 percent from the previous day’s closing level.

Optimism for the markets is bolstering winds coming from Asia, where robust quarterly figures from semiconductor manufacturer SK Hynix spurred significant gains in the technology sector and pushed the South Korean KOSPI higher. Andreas Lipkow, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets, noted that the successful IPO launch of Indian technology conglomerate Jio is also strengthening investor confidence. Furthermore, there is growing hope that the recently questioned AI boom still holds enough growth momentum to justify its high valuations.

Positive momentum is also being generated by the European earnings season. Results from Deutsche Bank, BASF, and BNP Paribas are supporting market sentiment. Banks, in particular, continue to benefit from a relatively favorable business environment and have not yet signaled major burdens due to loan defaults. Lipkow views this as an important indicator that the softer economy has not yet fully impacted the financial sector.

However, the true test for the stock markets looms later in the day. The convergence of the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and the subsequent quarterly earnings from Alphabet and Microsoft presents two crucial factors. While no change in key interest rates is expected, recently risen energy prices may push the Fed toward a more cautious, potentially restrictive, communication. Investors are watching every word from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, but the key focus will not be on a single decision, but on the interest rate path the Fed sets for the coming months.

For Alphabet and Microsoft, the primary focus of investors is the balance between massive investments in AI infrastructure and the development of free cash flow. Doubts about the long-term financial viability of the AI boom have intensified recently. These tech giants now must prove that their multi-billion dollar investments not only promise growth but also generate sufficient financial returns. Investors are increasingly seeking evidence of profitability, rather than relying solely on the future potential of artificial intelligence.

Lipkow concluded that although the initial outlook for the DAX is favorable, today’s trading day holds considerable upside potential. Strong corporate earnings could further uplift sentiment, but a more restrictive Fed policy or disappointing AI projections could quickly undermine the recent recovery.

On other fronts, the European community currency was slightly weaker in the morning; the Euro traded at 1.1123 US dollars, meaning a dollar was available for 0.8990 Euros. The gold price also weakened, trading at $4,048 per fine ounce this morning, a decrease of 0.4 percent. This equates to a price of 116.99 Euros per gram. Meanwhile, the oil price saw a significant increase; the Brent North Sea crude was priced at $115.10 per barrel around 9 AM German time, representing a 1.1 percent rise from the previous day’s close.
