Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, has defied an existing exit ban and has reportedly left Brazil, heading toward the United States. According to unified media reports, he is currently en route to the US. While an initial statement from a U.S. official cited by CNN suggested that Bolsonaro was traveling to Florida, the exact destination in the United States has since been stated as unclear.
Bolsonaro is facing investigations regarding allegations of corruption, money laundering, and currency smuggling, though he has rejected any claims of misconduct. Speculation intensified after the Argentine news agency Infobae reported that Bolsonaro departed Brazil, transiting through Argentina, following his defeat in the presidential run-off against the left-wing candidate, Lula da Silva, on Sunday. However, Argentine government officials have issued a statement confirming they have “no records of Flávio Bolsonaro’s entry” into the country.
Brazilian federal police have invalidated his passports because he failed to surrender them and are actively seeking his whereabouts, CNN Brazil reported. The situation originated when Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered Bolsonaro to hand over his travel passports within 24 hours on Monday. In response to the order, Bolsonaro claimed that Brazilian authorities themselves notified him personally, confirming that he was barred from leaving Brazil. He had previously refuted any intention to flee in a video posted on Instagram.
