Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann plans to leverage her election results for the FDP Federal Chair to demand substantial policy adjustments within the party’s executive board. According to the news magazine “Focus” her nearly 40 percent of votes represent a clear mandate to give this segment of the party a significant voice in the FDP presidency, and to secure content changes where necessary.
Despite her defeat by Wolfgang Kubicki, the Member of the European Parliament announced that she will cooperate constructively with the new party leader. She affirmed her continued commitment to serving the party.
Kubicki won decisively against Strack-Zimmermann on Saturday afternoon at the FDP party conference in Berlin, securing approximately 60 percent of the vote. Her unexpected campaign challenge had swiftly transformed the party conference into an open discussion about the party’s direction.
