Andre Wüstner, the chairman of the Federal Armed Forces Association, stated that the capability profile presented by Defence Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) on Wednesday was inadequate. Speaking to “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” Wüstner acknowledged, “It is good that we finally have a capability profile” but added, “However, the German armed forces are actually waiting for the target structure derived from and mandated by NATO commitments, which Boris Pistorius initiated last year. Because the demand for infrastructure, material, and especially personnel for the coming years must already be derived from and realized based on that”. Wüstner further explained that NATO’s military commander, SACEuro, needs to know which maneuver elements he can make available for his defence planning and when. Furthermore, inspectors and commanders need to know the parameters within which they can structurally design their organizational areas over time. Finally, parliament must know, as required by the Basic Law, what target structure the German armed forces will receive funding for.
