Luigi Pantisano, who has been designated as the new leader of The Left party, has strongly criticized remarks made by members of the youth wing, Linksjugend Solid, concerning Israel and the Gaza War. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Pantisano insisted that the party has a clear stance: “There is no place for antisemitic and dehumanizing positions,” adding that he expects those in charge to directly prevent such behavior in the future.
Pantisano acknowledged that the youth wing has been distancing itself from the unfolding events, viewing this as a necessary step. However, he clarified that while his party is firm on condemning hateful rhetoric, he does not believe there is a specific antisemitism problem inherent to The Left. Instead, he stated that antisemitism unfortunately exists across all social classes and groups, and that the party actively fights against it generally.
These comments follow reports from the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation (Bayerischer Rundfunk), which detailed that Solid officials within the internal forum used deeply offensive language regarding the Gaza conflict. Specifically, they were reported to have referred to “Israeli concentration camps” and an “Israeli genocide in the name of Judaism.”
