Deutsche Bahn intends to introduce last-minute ticketing options for its long-distance rail services. According to Michael Peterson, the Head of Long-Distance, this new offering promises secure and affordable travel options. Peterson explained that the initiative aims to attract new customer segments-those who might not normally think of train travel-by catering to customers with flexible travel plans.
The tickets will be available starting from €6.99, and these prices may be supplemented by applicable Bahncard discounts. Furthermore, children are entitled to travel free of charge. For convenience, customers will be able to book trips for the upcoming weekend, including for Saturdays and Sundays.
Peterson announced that customers can first book these last-minute fares beginning May 9th. The scheme is initially scheduled to run for six months, with the possibility of extension.
The company noted that this reflects a desire already present among travelers. Like all other discounted rate plans, the last-minute ticket prices are contingent on availability, meaning tickets can only be booked for trains with open seats. Accordingly, Peterson stressed that the probability of finding a bargain is particularly high during off-peak travel periods. Despite this new flexibility, the company continues to advise customers who prefer to plan far in advance to book their tickets early.
