Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) announced a three-point security package in the wake of the attack at a Christopher Street Day (CSD). According to the Tuesday edition of the “Bild-Zeitung”, the minister demanded a strict tightening of procedures against high-risk individuals on Monday.
The first proposal involves amending the juvenile justice system. Dobrindt stated that the application of juvenile law to adult offenders is unacceptable, arguing that a reform of the juvenile justice laws is therefore essential.
Furthermore, the CSU politician advocated for an expanded use of electronic ankle monitors. Dobrindt asserted that movement restriction enforced by ankle monitoring should become standard protocol for dangerous individuals.
The third component of his package calls for uniform nationwide regulations concerning pre-trial confinement. Speaking to the “Bild-Zeitung”, he stressed that comprehensive rules for preventative custody are necessary across Germany to remove those posing a threat from circulation. Dobrindt sees these proposals as the government’s initial political response to the CSD attack.
