Electoral Error Forces Shrinkage of Berlin House, Cutting Legislature Seats by Five

The Berlin House of Representatives is set to have fewer deputies than originally projected. According to information from the RBB, citing Katrin Zickert, the election official for Spandau, an error was discovered during the routine review of the preliminary election results in the district.

Specifically, in Spandau Electoral District 1, the CDU candidate Bettina Meißner did not win the direct mandate; instead, AfD candidate Tommy Tabor secured it. Although the result was counted correctly on election night, the data was reportedly transmitted incorrectly by phone.

This change in the direct mandate affects the required balancing and overhang mandates. Stephan Bröchler, the State Election Director, has stated that the new House of Representatives will only contain 153 seats, instead of the previously expected 158. Consequently, five representatives who were anticipated to be in office will no longer be represented. The individuals affected are currently being calculated.
