EU ambassadors have reached an agreement on a new sanctions package targeting Russia. Multiple media sources reported on Thursday, citing diplomatic circles, that the 21st sanctions package includes several key components. Among these measures is the freezing of the price cap for Russian oil for a period of twelve months. Furthermore, the package incorporates a one-year exception permit that allows for the transfer of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to third countries, thereby addressing a specific request from Greece. However, the sanctions initially proposed concerning fish are not included in the package. This exclusion also follows input from Germany, which had previously voiced concerns about limiting the import of Alaskan pollock. The technical drafting of the sanctions package is expected to be completed swiftly, with a written procedure to adopt the measures slated to begin on Thursday afternoon.
