In connection with the recent sabotage attacks on substations spanning Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Saxony, police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect who had been sought for several days. Authorities reported that Cologne Police officers located and apprehended the 48-year-old man on Tuesday morning in the vicinity of the Weisweiler power plant. During his capture, the suspect was found to be carrying additional explosives and offered no resistance.
Furthermore, police discovered a tent nearby in the undergrowth, which had been equipped with further explosive charges. These items were subsequently examined and processed by a disarmer from the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office.
The police immediately secured forensic traces and evidence at the location and are currently investigating whether any additional, undiscovered explosive devices were set up in the surrounding area. The detention is based on an arrest warrant issued by the Cottbus Prosecutor’s Office. Law enforcement is seeking witnesses who may have information regarding suspicious objects or the events themselves and is asking them to contact the police.
