The association of family business owners has issued a warning to the federal government, cautioning against imposing an undue strain on the economy through the implementation of the EU Directive on pay transparency. Marie-Christine Ostermann, the association’s president, commented to the “Rheinische Post” stating that while “equal pay for equal work is a given” the federal government must be extremely careful during the application of the EU Directive. She stressed that transparency should not evolve into a burdensome new system of documentation and reporting that overloads companies. Ostermann added that many family-run businesses currently operate using clear and verifiable payment criteria. She concluded by noting that the concern over disproportionate economic burdens is high, and that Germany should not transform a minimum European requirement into a maximum level of bureaucracy.
