The German federal government currently has no plans for implementing new relief measures regarding the recently rising fuel prices. Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius stated in Berlin on Monday that the fuel discount period has ended and there are no plans for further actions.
Kornelius noted that the government is observing frequent fluctuations, which may continue depending on the conflict situation in the Strait of Hormuz. He added that “we likely have to live with this situation for a while longer.”
When questioned about whether the fuel discount offered in May and June was a mistake, Kornelius referenced the goal of calming the markets at the time. Nevertheless, he affirmed that the situation will continue to be closely monitored. He concluded by saying, “I believe that we do not currently have the necessity to discuss a new measure.”
