The federal leadership of the Green Party has granted the Berlin state branch full autonomy in its exploratory discussions with the Linke (Left) and SPD (Social Democrats) regarding a potential coalition. This decision comes after the federal chairman, Felix Banaszak, issued a message to party members, as reported by the newspaper “Bild”.
The message stated that “further decisions lie at the Berlin state level.” Banaszak, in coordination with co-chair Franziska Brantner and the Green parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag, had clearly outlined the prerequisites the Greens demanded for coalition talks with the Linke in Berlin over the past few weeks.
According to the newspaper, Banaszak noted that for any partnership with the Linke and SPD to genuinely improve people’s lives, the conditions must meet certain requirements. He referenced the fact that the Linke had failed to keep agreed-upon appointments.
Furthermore, Banaszak emphasized that the responsibility for the negotiations and their potential outcomes rests with the top candidates and state leaders within Berlin.
