The potential halt of more than 90 rail projects, which are currently in various planning stages or even already under construction, is a threat driven by the federal government’s insufficient financial commitment. This information emerged from the federal government’s response to an inquiry posed by the Green Party, as reported by the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.” According to the report, several projects of outstanding public interest are at risk.
The industry coalition “Allianz pro Schiene” sharply criticized this situation. The alliance demands that the federal government adjust its budget for 2027 and introduce an infrastructure plan secured by multi-year financing to enable long-term planning. Dirk Flege, the commercial director for the associations, stated, “We expect the federal government to fulfill its promise: that what is ready to be built is actually built.”
Furthermore, the federal government’s own reply revealed that the planned federal investments for ongoing and new rail construction up to 2030 fall short of the demand that the government itself has identified.
