The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges before the State Security Senate of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg against two suspected supporters of the far-right terrorist group “Letzte Verteidigungswelle” (LVW), according to a statement released by the Karlsruhe authorities on Tuesday.
The two defendants are accused of knowingly assisting the LVW during their youth. The group aimed to trigger the collapse of Germany’s democratic system by committing acts of violence against both migrants and political opponents. Among their planned attacks were arson and explosive assaults targeting asylum seeker homes and institutions associated with the left-wing political spectrum.
The charges stem from an incident on January 5, 2025, when the two suspects attempted, alongside other LVW members, to set fire to an asylum seeker accommodation in Schmölln. Investigators report that the suspects broke a window and attempted to throw pyrotechnics into the building, though no fire ultimately broke out. During the attempt, one defendant ensured the scene was secure while the other filmed the event. Currently, one of the defendants remains in pre-trial detention, while the arrest warrant for the second suspect has been lifted.
