In their final test match ahead of the World Cup, the German national football team secured a 2-1 victory against the USA.
The match started strongly for Germany; Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the second minute by heading home a precise free-kick cross delivered by Joshua Kimmich. However, the Americans responded shortly before halftime, with Antonee Robinson netting a spectacular goal in the 37th minute. Robinson fired a volley past the bar from a poorly cleared ball.
Leroy Sané provided Germany with the decisive goal in the 57th minute. Havertz orchestrated the attack and laid the ball off to Sané, whose strike was deflected into the left corner.
Initially, Germany showed dominance throughout the first half, including an early chance by Havertz that was disallowed for offside. After Robinson’s equalizer came from halftime, the USA played with greater intensity, putting sustained pressure on the German backline through dangerous plays created by Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, though the Germans managed to hold their defensive position.
The second half saw a noticeable increase in tempo due to numerous changes made by both sides. While the Americans pressed aggressively for an equalizer, the German defense, anchored by goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, remained resolute and prevented any further goals. Nonetheless, Nadiem Amiri nearly netted Germany’s third goal when his shot narrowly grazed the post.
