Alexander Blessin has been appointed the new head coach for Borussia Mönchengladbach, the German Bundesliga side. The club announced on Tuesday that he has signed a contract with them that is valid until 2028.
Blessin began his coaching career within the youth setup of RB Leipzig. He initially worked as an assistant coach for the U17 team in Saxony before taking over as head coach later on. Following his time with the Leipzig U17 squad, he trained the U19 team at RBL from 2018 to 2020. His career then led him to KV Oostende in the Belgian top flight. In January 2022, he switched to Italy, taking the coaching role at CFC Genua.
Most recently, he managed FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga during the 2024/2025 season. He successfully secured the club’s place in the league during his first year there. However, St. Pauli was unable to replicate this success in the following season, and after their subsequent relegation, the club decided to undergo a fresh start without Blessin.
