In response to media reports suggesting the federal government intends to introduce a “tank discount” and a “price cap” on gasoline and diesel, the Green Party has voiced its strong criticism of these plans.
Michael Kellner, spokesperson for the Green parliamentary group on energy policy, told the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday editions) that another fuel discount is a poor idea. He expressed a wish for a country that loves its children as much as it loves its cars. He criticized the current policies, noting that while significant cuts are being made to families-including reductions in child support payments, cut-backs to parental allowance months, and the elimination of the immediate child supplement-money is still being made available for everyone for diesel and gasoline.
Kellner argued that a targeted direct payment would be a much better way to alleviate financial burdens. Furthermore, he added that no one knows if the proposed price reductions will actually materialize, suggesting that the hands of the oil and mineral companies are “tacky.”
