Hessen Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) has warned that protests announced for the weekend by the “Gen Z regelt” initiative could be infiltrated by far-left extremists. Speaking to Politico, Poseck stated that, based on all current expectations, left-wing extremists are likely to join the demonstrations, describing this as a potential and significant danger that the police are taking very seriously.
The CDU politician emphasized that the security authorities would closely monitor the demonstrations. He added that while he does not anticipate a situation akin to the turmoil seen in France on their streets, “the police will be deployed with a large force,” the Hessian Interior Minister specified. Poseck confirmed that police visibility would be extremely high, particularly in “neuralgical points” within the city, aiming to strengthen both the objective feeling of security and the subjective sense of safety among citizens.
While the vast majority of participants are expected to remain peaceful, Poseck acknowledged that a potential for violence is always present when far-left groups demonstrate. The CDU politician noted that he cannot completely rule out unrest, stating that “a capable state is urgently needed right now, and we also want to demonstrate that things are safe in Hesse.” Conversely, the minister assured the public that there are no indications of violent groups arriving from outside the country.
Poseck declined to comment specifically on typical student protests, confirming that students would participate, but stating he would not speak generally about them. Furthermore, the minister identified risks stemming from the potential mixing of groups, specifically danger posed by an overlap with “experience-oriented youth.” He pointed to Frankfurt, where clashes with youthful groups specifically seeking confrontation are a recurring issue on Zeil大街.
